Bloom paintings were made at the beginning of the Covid 19 pandemic in Spring 2020. In those uncertain and restricted times, my garden became a world, inspiring forms that express light, energy and optimism.
In addition to watercolour painted directly onto paper, I painted and collaged Shoji - a smooth, semi transluscent Japanese paper. I juxtaposed these firm-cut edges of organic shapes with more amorphous and freely painted ones, some of which dissolve at the edges.
“There are always flowers for those who want to see them.” – Henri Matisse
“In the green morning
I wanted to be a heart.
A heart.
And in the ripe evening
I wanted to be a nightingale.
A nightingale.
Soul, turn orange-colored.
Soul, turn the color of love.
In the vivid morning
I wanted to be myself.
A heart.
And at the evening's end
I wanted to be my voice.
A nightingale.
Soul, turn orange-colored.
Soul, turn the color of love.
– Federico García Lorca
